SPACECRAFT PRESS O19: “POETIC PENTAGRAMS” BY DAVE DRAYTON

DSC_0002Spacecraft Press is proud to announce the publication of Dave Drayton‘s Poetic Pentagrams (an excerpt from the poet’s larger project, entitled A Pet Per Ably-Faced Kid). A total of 30 copies were produced, 15 of which are for sale.

Dave Drayton is a recreational banjo player, fanatical sauna enthusiast, and founding member of the Atterton Academy. In 2014 he received the Blake Award for poetry.

Drayton’s line-by-line restrictions used to create Poetic Pentagons appear below. Each poetic pentagon is constructed from five lines of prose. The respective lengths of the lines give the pentagon its shape. Each poem consists of two such poetic pentagons, affixed along a shared diagonal side to create a new poem. The result of this formula is a series of pairs of tightly knit letter crystals, poems bonded to one another that remain distinct:

a: a seven letter word ending in A, I, or O

b: a seven letter word comprised of:
i) the initial seven letter word
ii) a five letter word using letters 1-5 of (i) in sequence
iii) a three letter word using
letters 5-7 of (i) in sequence

c: an eight letter word comprised of:
i) the initial eight letter word
ii) a seven letter word using
letters 2-8 of (i) in sequence
iii) a three letter word using
letters 1-3 of (i) in sequence

(‘word’ can also be ‘words’, provided the phrase does not alter the initial letter sequence)

Line 1 is one letter.
Line 2 is three letters.
Line 3 is seven letters.
Line 4 is five letters.
Line 5 is three letters.

Poetic Pentagrams is available for $3.00 including domestic postage (+$1 non-Canadian postage). To order, please contact Ken Hunt at jkchunt@hotmail.com. Paypal is preferred. Money orders in CAN dollars are also accepted.
